Summary:

The Process A Operator is part of a team of operators who safely receive high pressure Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) via pipeline, dehydrate, treat, refrigerate, store and load ship these products onto marine vessels.  At the current time, these products include ethane, propane, butane and natural gasoline (C5+).  Process A Operators are tasked with operating the facility from a Distributed Control System (DCS) in the control room as well as directing Process B Operators and performing Process B Operator duties as necessary on occasion. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed but are not limited to the items below:

  • Ensure safe work practices, maintain product quality and ensure the efficiency of the operation.
  • Assist the Operations Supervisors with scheduling and coordinating projects, turnarounds scheduled outages and other large maintenance events. 
  • Ensure proper documentation and reports are accomplished in a timely manner. 
  • Assist with project development and execution. 
  • Remain current with appropriate regulations including PSM, HAZOP, DOT, environmental, etc. 
  • Work in a 24/7 operational environment with shift rotation and call outs.
  • Ensure proper product flows, temperatures and pressures and maintain appropriate tank and vessel liquid levels.
  • Recognize operating deviations and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Record various operating information, complete reports, make proper notifications of environmental deviations and lock-out/tag-out equipment for maintenance and repair. 
  • Communicate with company control centers, business groups and other operating groups as necessary. 
  • Oversee construction and maintenance activities performed by third parties, including permitting and inspection of jobs within the facility. 
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns. 
  • Actively participate in all safety programs.
  • Become a member of the emergency response team (Fire Brigade). 

Special Considerations:

 Must reside within commutable distance of the Nederland Terminal. The described job duties are a framework in which work will be assigned. This description is not inclusive of all responsibilities or job assignments. This position will require extended off-hour duties at times.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as an Operator in the petroleum industry, preferably the NGL sector.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in basic math skills
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license in the applicant’s state of residence.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. routinely and 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Driving, walking, , sitting, climbing ladders and standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather and cramped conditions
  • Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
