Gas Controller
Summary:
The Gas Controller will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of 5 different pipeline systems within Energy Transfer’s Interstate Pipeline operations. The Gas Controller will be responsible for setting flow rates/pressure set points, remotely starting/stopping compression, monitoring the SCADA system/alarming. The Gas Controller will also be expected to operate within Company and governmental policies/procedures including response to emergencies. Using specialized technical skills, the ideal candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot and work independently while still working within a team environment.
- Monitor and control the horsepower and pipeline system for multiple Interstate Pipelines.
- Manage the pressures, linepack, receipts and deliveries of the pipeline systems to maximize operational efficiencies.
- Determine system requirements and changes needed to maintain customer deliveries.
- Work with field operations personnel, resolve customer problems and implement outage coordination plans.
- Initiate and follow emergency response procedures as required.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong Analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Abilitiy to manage stress during certain pipeline operations/situations – emergency response, customer/land owner disputes, etc.
· As with any pipeline control center, all listed duties are very significant because they are essential to prevent damage or harm to people, the environment, and assets. This job requires 12 hours of continuous console monitoring while standing or sitting. Company provided fatigue awareness training is required to perform this job.
· Pipeline Controllers work in a Control Center environment containing multiple consoles staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week by other Pipeline Controllers monitoring and controlling pipelines assigned to each console, identifying and reacting to abnormal and emergency situations on those pipelines, answering phone calls and contending with frequent high call volumes, monitoring and interacting with multiple computer screens and multiple televisions for pipeline readings, facility status indications, alarm status indications, news, weather, pipeline dig and locate notifications from utilities and the public, and more.
· Pipeline Controllers work a 28-day schedule of rotating 12 hour day and night shifts. The schedule is commonly identified as the “DuPont Schedule” by the Pipeline Control and processing plant/refinery industries and consists of four nightshifts, three days off, three dayshifts, one day off, three nightshifts, three days off, four dayshifts, and then seven days off. Individual shifts are worked from 0615 hours to 1815 hours for dayshifts and 1815 hours to 0615 hours for nightshifts. Controllers are expected to stay fifteen minutes over on each shift to give a shift turnover (“briefing”) on the past 12 hours of their shift.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word, is essential.
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
- Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in an Interstate Gas operations role or equivalent work experience
- Level B requires a minimum of 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in an Interstate Gas operations role or equivalent work experience
- Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in an Interstate Gas operations role or equivalent work experience

- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
