Summary

The Engineering Manager  will report to the Director of Technical Operations and will provide leadership and support to the E&C staff.  This support and leadership includes ensuring design and construction of projects in the division are in compliance with applicable regulation, codes, and SOP’s as well as meeting the needs of internal and external customers.  This includes all phases of a project, both capital and O&M, from scoping and estimating to construction and final documentation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering support associated with the planning, design, and construction of Operating Area company natural gas transmission, compression, gathering and related facilities. 
  • Provides overall direction and coordination of engineering and construction for Operating Area projects from initiation to completion. 
  • Effectively manages costs, schedules, cash flow and quality of engineering, procurement, and construction for assigned projects. 
  • Represents Operating Area engineering & construction activities to commercial companies relative to: determination of critical project elements, priorities, cost, timetables, and completion; assuring completion of project responsibilities by participating organizations (Planning, Engineering Support, ROW, Purchasing, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Project Control, Environmental Affairs, etc.); monitoring project progress including updated cost estimating and scheduling information; communicating status to commercial companies; and recommendation of alternative courses of action to resolve problems or accommodate changes in project scope or concept. 
  • Acts as a centralized resource to other organizations to resolve problems and assist in applicable negotiations, or make presentations to commercial company management. 
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with commercial company management, Operations, other organizations and the representatives of other pipelines, producers, customers, etc. 
  • Establishes and enforces project safety standards and performance. 
  • Supervises other Engineers and Technicians. 
  • Reports to the Director of Technical Operations for the Division.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 8+ years advanced experience in managing engineering, design, construction, and planning projects in the natural gas industry or related area. 
  • Working knowledge of engineering principals and standards; applicable governmental regulations. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. 
  • Proficiency with a variety of personal computer software applications. 
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must live within 40 miles of Overland Park, KS.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing. 
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in an environment of changing priorities, reporting, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Deals frequently with a wide range of contacts including technical, operations, risk management, contractors, vendors, attorneys, and various levels of management. 
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or days during peak work periods and to meet strict deadlines. 
  • Frequent visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
