Manager - Engineering
Summary:
The Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Technical Operations and provide supervisory support over a technical and project execution team. As a manager, employee will interact with Division to ensure successful planning and execution of projects and assist with technical guidance where needed..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads a team of project engineers, specialists, technical and administrative personnel, focused primarily on the design, construction and management of Division maintenance projects.
- Provides engineering and technical assistance and guidance to field operations with the objective of operating and maintaining the company’s pipeline facilities in a safe, reliable, and cost effective manner.
- Works with Corporate engineering, technical & marketing personnel, customers, vendors, and third party operators to address and meet the needs of the Division.
- Manages the Division’s maintenance capital and expense project budgets.
- Facilitates the project budget development process at the Division level, working closely with Area Management and their staff.
- Provides guidance and oversight on the scoping, estimating, budgeting, scheduling and completion of assigned capital and expense projects.
- Directs staff to provide economic and technical evaluations for capital budget proposals. Includes analyzing budget proposal necessity, determining the best method to accomplish the proposal, and evaluating technical feasibility and economic justification.
- Leads his team through the monthly project cost forecasting process for projects assigned.
- Ensures his team follows the appropriate administrative and documentation requirements for project execution, funding and completion.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance on operating problems experienced on pipeline facilities that typically occur in the areas affecting the safety, integrity, reliability, and efficiency of the pipeline system. Functional areas include pipeline, compression, welding, measurement, regulation, corrosion, pipeline integrity and environmental.
- Ensures that facility designs and construction meet company procedures, standards, codes and regulations of local, state and federal government
- Develops and reviews technical specifications for purchase of equipment and services. Identifies and qualifies potential manufacturers, fabricators, vendors, and contractors.
- Facilitates the project scheduling and the pipeline outage coordination process for the Division.
- Leads the development of his direct reports through the establishment of goals and objective, ensuring appropriate training where needed and facilitates post project reviews for lessons learned opportunities. Monitors performance and provides coaching. Conducts performance reviews
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 8+ years of relevant work experience
- Expected to have knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, API, and AGA. Industry experience in engineering, design, construction and operation of natural gas transmission systems.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Projects
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with a variety of personal computer software applications.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of engineering principals and standards; applicable governmental regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skill

Must be able to work extended hours and/or days during peak work periods and to meet strict deadlines.

Frequent travel to field locations and construction sites, which may require overnight stay.
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
