Intern Accounting - Sunoco
Sunoco, L.P., the nation’s largest fuel distribution company, is looking for interns to join our fast-paced, high impact Accounting team in Dallas, TX.
This is an eleven (11) weeks paid internship program beginning May 2024. You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with an expected graduation date in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025.
Summary:
During your internship you will have direct access to senior leadership within the organization as well as the opportunity to work on high-impact projects in addition to your core departmental responsibilities. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in learning about operational accounting in the oil & gas industry, in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment.
We'll work with you to determine best fit within our various operational accounting teams in Dallas. These include Fuel Inventory, Fuel Payables, Midstream, Non-Fuel Billing, Cash Management, Retail Accounting, and Credit Card Accounting.
Duties & Responsabilities
• Record daily and monthly journal entries to ensure accuracy of financial information.
• Prepare account reconciliations and explain reconciling items.
• Perform trend analysis on various P&L and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist in building financial data models using tools such as Excel, SAP BPC, Business Intelligence.
• Document processes using MS Visio.
• Research and resolve missing fuel delivery information.
• Monitor the performance of the fuel accounting systems by ensuring feeds and processes are running as scheduled and performing as expected.
• Identify, research and resolve processing errors related to fuel exchanges.
• Interface with multiple internal departments to resolve issues within fuel sales and fuel deliveries.
• Support management ad hoc requests.

- Currently enrolled in college - we’re open to candidates of all degrees – if you possess the intangibles above and the work sounds intriguing, we can teach you the rest
- Preferably junior status
- General requirements include self-motivated individuals, involvement in activities outside college studies.
- Above average GPA
- Distinctive problem-solving skills and an intellectual curiosity to solve unique and oftentimes complex problems
- Strong work ethic and high level of self-motivation and accountability to “get stuff done” – while you’ll receive regular coaching and feedback, we intentionally position our interns to be able to own their work
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with occasionally tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Advanced Excel skills -
• Familiarity with SAP, Alteryx, PowerBI, SalesForce a plus
