Summary:

Under general supervision of the Technical Supervisor, the Instrument/Analyzer Technician carries out assigned tasks to repair, install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform predictive and preventative maintenance on Instrumentation, Analyzers and other associated devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed but are not limited to the items below:

  • Ability to carry out assigned preventive maintenance duties and installation assignments of electronic and control equipment and recommend remedial maintenance as required
  • Ability to perform periodic and emergency overhauls and reconditioning of equipment including, but not limited to:  remote transmitter units, controller, product identification devices, uninterruptible power supplies, tank alarm, programmable logic controllers, fire detectors, temperature monitors, vibration monitors, regulated power supplies, frequency to D.C. converters, metering circuits, pressure and temperature transmitters, including totalizers, 24VDC and 120VAC relay logic panels, timers and counters, flashpoint detection equipment, vapor detectors, assorted panel meters, electronic tools and test equipment, control valves, instrumentation, control and supervisory equipment and analyzers.
  • Have working knowledge of Windows PC operating system, flow meters, control systems, analyzers, and densitometers
  • Use and operate all pertinent safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.). 
  • Be computer literate with basic skills in Windows, MS Word and Excel, and Internet use.
  • Able to interpret, install and troubleshoot instrumentation in accordance with basic P & ID and electrical/electronic schematics, and make modifications/corrections as necessary.
  • Incumbent normally works alone but at times is required to coordinate his/her work activities with other technicians to make repairs to electronic instrumentation and other equipment 
  • May be requested to inspect or oversee the work of contract employees in the installation or maintenance of electronic instrumentation equipment. 
  • Able to investigate and diagnose reported difficulties; make repairs and adjustments and restore equipment and facilities to proper operation.  Able to use various test equipment, measuring devices, hand and power tools and gauges related to the electronic instrumentation field. 
  • As assigned, assists technicians in other disciplines with routine maintenance, repair and installation. 
  • Responsible to help maintain safe and healthful working conditions by exercising sound judgment, complying with all industry safety regulations and standards, and keeping current with changing industry regulation and standards.

Special Considerations:

 

  • Must reside within commutable distance of the Nederland Terminal. The described job duties are a framework in which work will be assigned. This description is not inclusive of all responsibilities or job assignments. This position will require extended off-hour duties at times.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • High School diploma. AAS degree in Instrumentation Technology or equivalent experience. 
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license in the applicant’s state of residence.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills and be capable of effectively interfacing with all levels of management, field personnel, and professionals.
  • Able to use sound judgment, be a self-starter and well organized.
  • Proficiency utilizing MicroSoft applications.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. routinely and 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Driving, walking, and standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather and cramped conditions
  • Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
